Keep Your Money TRULY Local!
Join Slow Food East Bay and the Sustainable Economies Law Center at Port Kitchens for an evening on the roof deck celebrating worker-owned collectives! There will be eating, drinking, a film screening, speakers, and more!
Learn how and why supporting co-ops in our food spending makes for a more sustainable system.
RSVP on Facebook or Eventbrite by clicking below!
6:00pm-7:00pm: Eat (food for sale or BYO!) and drink (no BYO, sorry...) and mingle with representatives from Cheeseboard, Three Stone Hearth, Arizmendi, The Juice Bar Collective, Alchemy Cafe, Mandela Marketplace, Sustainable Economies Law Center, Project Equity and others.
7:00pm-8:30pm: Grab another drink and a bag o' popcorn and settle in on the couches (supplied) and camp chairs (BYO!) for a screening of 'Food for Change' an amazing history of food co-ops in the US, starting back in the Depression.
8:30pm-9:30pm: Cap off the evening listening to our panel of speakers. Are cooperatively managed businesses one solution to inequality in our food and economic systems? Why do businesses choose to go 'collective'? What are the challenges they face, how do they govern and what does it mean for their workers and the products they offer?
Keep your money TRULY local, supporting community, democratic governance, and good working conditions.
Now THAT'S a night well "spent"!
