Recorded at the 2019 Social Enterprise Law Seminar

Speakers: Jay Cumberland, Sustainable Economies Law Center, & Charlotte Tsui, Sustainable Economies Law Center

This session discusses the rationale behind cooperatives, surveys the various types of cooperatives, and explores the special legal issues cooperatives create for attorneys. Participants will learn about the different definitions of cooperatives, and how they manifest as legal structures, tax categories, or simply as a set of principles that guide governance style. This session is intended for those who are new to the cooperative space, as well as those who are interested in a refresher on cooperative foundations.
