With the increasing demand for local, sustainable food, the need for alternatives to direct farm-to-consumer and conventional wholesale channels is growing. Regional food hubs can fill this need by serving as local values-based supply chains that link small farmers with larger buyers, while maintaining social, environmental, and community values. SELC Legal Fellow Jenny Loda will discuss:
- Different forms food hubs can take, including cooperative models
- Sources of funding and support for food hubs
- Specialized state and federal regulations that may apply to food hubs
Jenny Loda is an attorney working to serve the legal needs of local communities to support more just and sustainable economies. Jenny has a background in ecology and sustainable agriculture and is particularly interested in working with farmers and food entrepreneurs to support more localized, sustainable food systems.
