This teach-in will focus on the process interested communities members must go through in order to create a credit union. We will focus on the difference between state and federal credit unions and the process of individuals starting a credit union serving minorities.
The teach-in be will facilitated by Greg Jackson, a SELC Cooperatives Program Intern and 2L at Golden Gate University Law School. He has worked with community based organizations across the East Bay to increase opportunities for the creation of youth led cooperative enterprises and is leading research on creating a Marcora (Italian) inspired law for California that would enable individuals to band together and pool their unemployment insurance to start a cooperative business or buy out the business from their employer who is looking to retire.
