The Small Biz Subcommittee meeting this Thursday, July 12th is NOT a priority action, though several worker cooperative advocates will be there simply to thank the Small Business Subcommittee for making worker coops the main topic of their August 7th meeting. Please be sure to attend the August 7th meeting to express the urgent need for Berkeley to take action in support of worker coops. If you would still like to attend this July 12th hearing to thank the Subcommittee for prioritizing worker coops at their next meeting, feel free to do so and RSVP below.

Details: We will have a small presence at the Subcommittee meeting to thank its members for prioritizing worker cooperatives at their August 7th meeting. Please consider RSVPing for the August 7th meeting instead. 

Public comment: The Subcommittee's purpose is limited to examining the Office of Economic Development's (OED) work plan on small business development, therefore all public comments should be related to the Subcommittee's limited scope and the agenda of the meeting, which this week will be vacant commercial spaces. That's why we're keeping our comments short and simply thanking the Subcommittee for making worker cooperatives the main focus of their August 7th meeting. 

Other opportunities for action:

1. Attend the August 7th Small Business Subcommittee meeting. We need to show strong support for worker cooperatives at this Subcommittee meeting so that the Mayor and other Councilmembers take swift action on the worker cooperative ordinance!

2. Attend the Worker Cooperative Development Ordinance City Council hearing. Late summer (likely in September), Berkeley City Council will vote on a comprehensive ordinance to support worker cooperative development. Click here to learn more about the forthcoming ordinance and how you can support!
