WHY I'M RUNNING:
I am running in the Oakland Running Festival because (1) I had a baby last March and I need to get back in shape; (2) pre-baby, I was really into running and I miss it; and (3) most importantly, I want to support my workplace, Sustainable Economies Law Center, in its mission to create more worker cooperatives and worker self-directed nonprofits! I believe labor should be decommodified and long for my daughter to be part of a healthier and more equitable economy when she enters the workforce. Democratic workplaces create sustainable livelihoods, give workers a voice in policies that impact them the most, and strike at the roots of income and wealth inequality.
The Oakland Running Festival was my initial introduction to running races, where I completed my first 5K in 2015. It was also my first (and only!) full marathon, which I ran in 2016. Because I've been focusing on keeping a tiny human alive lately, rather than running, I'll likely run the 5K this year. Lydia will train with me in a running stroller and meet me at the finish line!
I hope to raise $1,000 for the Law Center's campaign to create more democratic workplaces. Please join us and pitch in what you can!
