We recently shared a blog about how we might consider regulating sales of homemade meals on the internet in a way that is somewhat analogous to regulation of certified farmers' markets in California. If you missed it or want a refresher, check out the post here.
We are continuing to work on this concept and we'd love your input - especially if you are a cottage food producer, a home cook, or an aspiring small food business owner! We will be hosting a series of webinars to discuss different aspects of possible policy changes in this area. The first will be next week on August 17 at 5pm.
- To join the webinar just go to this link at 5pm on August 17.
- There is also a simple call-in option if you prefer not to join from a computer or other device:
- Dial +1 (408) 650-3123 and use the Access Code 897-888-181.
Our Policy Director Christina Oatfield and Intern Ciara Smith will share some background on the existing law in California, updates on efforts to expand it, some thoughts about our policy ideas, and then we'll open it up for questions and discussion. This webinar will focus on ideas about regulating web platforms that sell homemade food. Future webinars or in person events will focus on other aspects of our policy ideas including food safety and working with local government.
By the way...Are you a food producer? If so, please also fill out our short survey on possible expansions of the California Homemade Food Act here. We'd love to hear from any cottage food producers, small batch food producers, home cooks, and any aspiring food businesses owners!
