Legal Structures for the New Economy

Donate below to view this video (recorded at the 2019 Social Enterprise Law Seminar) our Executive Director Janelle Orsi. We will e-mail you a link to the CLE video and instructions on how to obtain California participatory CLE credit.

To transition from an extractive and exploitative economy to a just and equitable economy, we need solid legal structures that help redirect the flow of wealth and power. What entities, tax categories, governance structures, and financial matters should we guide our clients to consider in furtherance of economic transformation? In this presentation, Janelle Orsi will cast aside some of the usual approaches to advising clients on choice of entity, and she'll use goofy cartoons to review the basics, apply some core principles for economic democracy, and offer guidance on pushing boundaries with the use of nonprofit and cooperative entities. You'll come away with some cartoon educational tools and feeling better prepared to guide your most revolutionary clients.
