FREE Webinar: Can We Imagine A World Where Personal Security Doesn't Require Individual Savings?

The “wisdom” of saving money has become so ingrained in our consciousness that many of us barely question it. But some of our members want to grapple with some hard truths: If saving money is the path to economic security, then the 50%-70% of Americans with little-to-no savings are likely doomed to lives of insecurity. Plus, any system that allows individual accumulation by some people, while other people are left impoverished, requires that we have a system of policing, prisons, and other physical/mental oppression to justify and protect the entitlement of some people to accumulate at the expense of others. Accumulation requires the construction of boundaries and border walls to protect what has accumulated, and those walls are reinforced by racism and white supremacy. Can we imagine a world in which people thrive without individually accumulated wealth? What would we need to start building now, and how can the Next Egg support this?

Facilitated by Mike Strode, a facilitator and solidarity economy organizer, founding coordinator of the Kola Nut Collaborative, Program Officer at Open Collective Foundation, and co-facilitator of the Cooperation for Liberation Study & Working Group.

The Next Egg creates resources, builds communities, and shares tools necessary so that millions of us can move our retirement savings out of Wall Street and into our local communities. These tools include self-directed IRAs, solo 401ks, and employer retirement plans. Join us
