2023 is our year to win the People’s Budget Campaign!
The 2022 People’s Budget campaign was drawn to an early close. While doing better than 2019, our campaign this year wasn’t enough to win. Our members voted to recover our energy and launch next year.
So here we are and we’re not done yet. All our experience is leading us to this point in history, and with your support we can make it to the starting line: Our City. Our Budget. Imagine That.
Corporations can spend hundreds of millions to get their profit-inflating scams onto our ballots. But we have one thing that they don’t, the power of people!

Community Democracy in Action is a fiscally sponsored project of the Sustainable Economies Law Center and is co-managed by volunteer members of the Community Democracy Project (CDP). CDA is gathering signatures to put a People's Budget Amendment on Oakland's general election ballot.
Your tax deductible donation will help us hire organizers to gather signatures for our voter initiative! Our petition will change the Oakland City Charter so that we the people decide how our tax money is spent. There will be empowered neighborhood assemblies throughout the city where people can come together to discuss community issues and determine public priorities by directly voting on the city budget. The time has come for public decision-making to include the voices of all.
