Teach-in and Discussion on History of Mutual Aid Coops!

ATTN: Mutual aid organizers and lawyers!

Join us for a presentation and conversation about the future of the mutual aid movement. In recent months, the Sustainable Economies Law Center and other legal professionals have worked to develop guidance and resources relating to tax, governance, and other immediate needs of mutual aid groups as they provide local support within communities affected by COVID-19 and its economic consequences.

Next, we’ll host a short presentation exploring what legal structures mutual aid organizations could build and what challenges they might face as they gain institutional power, looking to the mutual aid cooperatives of the Great Depression as a historical model, before facilitating a broader discussion among mutual aid organizers and lawyers about the future of the movement.

This teach-in and discussion will be hosted by our summer intern Erika Sato who has been working on our mutual aid toolkit with us.
