Learning about the SELC and finding Janelle’s book, Practicing Law in the Sharing Economy, reassured me that my interest in going to law school to support social enterprise and community-based/scaled/owned economies made sense.

At my law school, I founded a Resilient Communities Law Society, which focused on exploring SELC’s work. I graduated in May and will be a B Corps Fellow next year. But I hope the Resilient Communities Law Society gains momentum at my alma mater and I look forward to developing a career inspired by SELC’s principles and precedent.

I look forward to collaborating with SELC to find and implement real-world solutions that will empower new, young and small-scale family farmers to make a living by growing food in more sustainable ways.

As a partner of Shareable, they’ve helped me personally and us as an organization in too many ways to count. We love SELC for both who they are and what they do. They’re amazing.

SELC is awesome in so many ways. SELC helps navigate the legal waters that many grassroots orgs need to comfortably innovate to solve the economic, environmental problems we’re have as a society. They give ‘people power’ a stronger voice, hand and heart in re-creating a more just economy on this beautiful planet. And for people just hearing about the sharing economy, they offer a doorway where they can learn about co-operatives, local currencies among other tools, so they get to join the party too!

SELC gives me hope when our broken legal systems, political systems and economic systems make the future look bleak. There is a possible future of freedom, abundance and empowerment for all. The fact that the lawyers at SELC are helping us get there makes me proud to be a lawyer again.

SELC is an incredible resource! There are a bunch of critical legal issues unique to community currencies — and that makes SELC’s expertise in this sector all the more valuable. Heartfelt thanks to the whole SELC team for providing such helpful advice!

Thank you so much for your just-in-time advice and questions that helped us think through the non-profit incorporation process and governance models for supporting our decentralized learning community. It is so rare and fortunate to find skilled experts to provide legal advice who already understand the intricacies of movement building, grassroots organizations, and building a commons. We are so appreciative that you make this vital service available to us and to the new economy movement in general.

We love SELC. SELC has been very informative and helpful while we grow our small micro business with limited funds. We’ve never owned a business before and with SELC’s workshops and online information all our legal questions are answered which in turn helps to guide and focus our business plan in the right direction.

SELC is an amazing organization and they are really setting the trend on how to solve problems within the community. Our communities need more organizations to offer solutions in the same manner that SELC is offering. Great job to the whole staff at SELC.

This is what we are about:

We plant seeds that one day will grow.

We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.

We lay foundations that will need further development.

We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our capabilities.

    We cannot do everything

and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.

This enables us to do something,

and to do it very well.

It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way,

an opportunity for God’s grace to enter and do the rest.

We may never see the end results,

but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker.

We are workers, not master builders,

    ministers, not messiahs.

We are prophets of a future not our own.
