Oakland was one of the first cities in the country to adopt a mobile food vending permit program. Since the program’s inception, the City has been working to revise regulations to increase opportunities for entrepreneurs starting new food vending businesses.

Come to the Resilient Communities Legal Cafe Teach-in and join the conversation as UC Berkeley Law Students, Jim and Yoona:

• Explain regulations governing various mobile food preparation and vending ideas;
• Distribute maps of permissible mobile food vending locations in Oakland;
• Clarify the steps to obtain necessary certifications, including the business tax certificate and the Environmental Health Services Health Permit;
• Provide a checklist for getting through required inspections;
• Walk through the application process using a hypothetical mobile food vending business; and
• Highlight compliance issues every mobile food entrepreneur should consider moving forward.

Jim and Yoona are part of "Legal Eats," a program of the Community Food Empowerment Project at UC Berkeley Boalt School of Law. Legal Eats aspires to make the daunting application process more accessible to first time applicants or re-applicants unfamiliar with new developments in the program.
