Join SELC as we discuss how to create integrated and mutually supporting networks of cooperative enterprises with Michael Johnson, co-author of BUILDING CO-OPERATIVE POWER! Stories and Strategies from Worker Co-Operatives in the Connecticut River Valley. Michael will provide a short presentation about the coops in his book and lessons learned through the Valley Alliance of Worker Co-operatives, an association of worker cooperatives in Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. This will be followed by a Q&A led conversation.
This will be a general discussion for the cooperative community; whether you're a card carrying member of NoBAWC or a someone interested to see the impact cooperatives are already having in communities around the country. All are welcome! Please share widely!
About the book:
Building Co-operative Power introduces the history and concept of worker co-operation and relays past and present stories of worker co-operatives in the Connecticut River Valley. It offers practical insights on co-op governance, management, communication and conflict highlighted by cautionary tales and sagas of personal transformation of current and former co-operators. It addresses obstacles and opportunities for building a co-operative economy and making worker co-operatives an increasingly important part of the U.S. economy. The authors outline a regional vision based on strategies of worker co-operatives in the Connecticut River Valley as a guide and inspiration for co-operative development in any region.
