How to Start a Nonprofit in California: A Legal Workshop

   
   

This legal training will provide step-by-step instructions to incorporate a nonprofit in California and seek exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In particular, it will review:

  • Basic legal rules governing California 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporations

  • Drafting Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws

  • Holding the first Board Meeting

  • Funding the nonprofit

  • Filing for tax exemption with the Internal Revenue Service

  • Additional required filings with state agencies

Template documents will be provided!


This workshop is for:

  • people who want to start a nonprofit

  • people in the middle of the process of incorporating their nonprofit

  • people who have completed the process of forming a nonprofit and want to continue to work on their nonprofit formation documents, and review future legal requirements

The workshop is capped to 8 nonprofit signups (individual or groups up to 3 people) so all participants can receive hands-on support.
