CDPH issues proposed additions to the list of allowed foods under the CA Homemade Food Act

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued proposed additions to the list of allowed foods under the CA Homemade Food Act yesterday. These are proposed additions to the list, so the changes to the list will not go into effect for another 30 days and are subject to change based on public comment.

We at the Sustainable Economies Law Center suspect that all of the proposed additions will become part of the official list of allowed foods next month. The proposal for new food items on the list includes dried vegetables, dried vegetarian soup mixes, ground chocolate and some sweet treats. Many cake bakers working under the Homemade Food Act are rejoicing because the proposed additions also clarify what kinds of cake frostings will be allowed, alleviating some confusion around that topic we've been experiencing during the past year. You can read CDPH's full statement about the proposed additions here.
